Places for People Projects
§ Belalie Creek Footbridge & Ayr Street Pedestrian Movement Capital Works: Places for People Grant Funding has been provided to council for capital works to provide pedestrian and landscape improvements around Belalie Creek Footbridge and Ayr Street. Capital works improvements will include developing pedestrian linkages to the east and west sides of Belalie Creek Footbridge, replacement of the old and narrow footbridge and environmental improvements to Belalie Creek. The project will ensure safe pedestrian movement between eastern and western Ayr Street and improve the Belalie Creek as an important public space for the community and visitors to enjoy. § Gladstone Town Centre Redevelopment Design and Contract Documentation / Capital Works: Council received Grant Funding for capital works and design documentation to upgrade the park land along the Main Street of Gladstone and create a multipurpose community space. Park land upgrades will include seating, picnic tables, landscaping, lighting, street art, a water feature and street tree planting. The proposal will improve social spaces that will benefit the community and visitors, compliment the existing built heritage and have a positive impact on economic and tourist factors. § Georgetown Urban Design Framework Strategic Urban Design: Places for People provided Grant Funding to council for the development of an urban design framework for the Main Street of Georgetown. Opportunities to improve the public realm will be identified including the development of the town’s public spaces for improved pedestrian access, cycling and walking. The proposal will also identify opportunities to increase tourism and attract investment in the town.
